Dr. Kai C. Lei
Dr. Kai C. Lei, DDS, MS (he/him/his) is a board-certified periodontist who has been working as a periodontist for over six years. Dr. Lei was born in Taipei, Taiwan and moved to the United States during middle school; he eventually relocated to Southern California to study biochemistry while minoring in biomedical research at UCLA. He received his dental degree from UCSF. While in dental school, he studied alveolar bone remodeling in biglycan knockout mice. After completing his dental degree, Dr. Lei moved to Boston where he completed his residency in periodontics at Tufts University. During his residency, he received a master’s degree for his research on the effect of acellular dermal matrix on human gingival tissue. After completing his residency, Dr. Lei moved back to his beloved Bay Area to work in his specialty.
Dr. Lei has a broad interest in periodontal surgery including mucogingival surgery, osseous resection surgery, bone augmentation, tissue regeneration and implant surgery. Dr. Lei has participated in medical mission trips abroad to Bolivia and volunteered with Asian Health Services in the Bay Area. Dr. Lei is fluent in English/Mandarin and a member of the American Board of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry.
In his spare time, Dr. Lei enjoys hiking, photography and trying different food.
